The diaconate of West Sydney Chinese Christian Church are the overseers of the whole church, working closely with the pastoral team. Each has different gifts and responsibilities, but all have grassroots involvement within their home congregations.
Anthony Choong
Chairman of the Diaconate

Anthony is the Chairman of the Diaconate. He has been attending WSCCC since the early 1990s and was an original member of the 5pm Evening Service, the precursor of cp11. His passion is to see our church united in seeking to bring glory to God throughout the world. He has previously been chairman of the missionary committee and led a short-term mission team in 2007 from WSCCC to Taiwan with OMF, working with our missionaries the Nicholsons and the Chens.
Anthony works in IT for IBM. He is married to Ruth and they have three children: Laura, Timothy, and James. He is an avid handyman who spends every spare moment at Bunnings Warehouse or browsing eBay for a bargain.
Desmond Chu
Vice-Chairman of the Diaconate and Chairman of the Missionary and Theological Education Committee

Des serves in the cp11 congregation. He was one of 12 kids who were the first Sunday school of WSCCC back in 1978. Today he is involved with the strategic planning of the church, works closely with the minister in overseeing the Sunday services, occasional preaching, pastoral care, and leading small groups. He is also chairman of the missionary committee; his passion is for global missions ministry: sharing mission-mindedness, mobilising people in mission, and member care. Des has spent time on mission in Nepal, Pakistan, and Kyrgyzstan. He also serves on the NSW council of Interserve and is involved in Chinese Churches For Mission (CCFM).
Des is married to Margaret and they have two children, Daniel and Sarah. He works as an anaesthetist. He is also a graduate of Sydney Missionary and Bible College. His desire is to see the congregations grow in biblical maturity, with a global perspective reflecting God’s heart for the lost. Des relaxes by rumbling with the kids and goes to bed far too late.
Andrew Wong (AK)
Assistant Secretary of the Diaconate

Andrew became a Christian in 1996 and came to WSCCC in 1999. He has been involved in music ministry for several years and led the 5pm Evening Service and cp11 music teams. He has also been co-leader of a Bible study small group, participated in Surry Hills Urban Mission, and regularly serves at cp11. His desire for the church is for its members to grow in their faith and knowledge of God and to be a humble, caring people united in a deep and genuine love for each other and for Christ.
Andrew is married to Alice and they have a baby boy named Matthew. He works as a software developer and enjoys movies, snow sports, music, drama, and dance. He is known for being a slow eater and something of a clean freak.
Ken Lim
Chairman of the Personnel Committee

Ken attends the cp11 congregation. As a child of one of the six founding families in 1978, Ken has been at WSCCC for more than 30 years and has seen God’s grace in growing the church to what it is today. Ken has served as a Sunday school teacher, a youth group leader, a deacon, the church treasurer, part of an urban mission outreach team (SHUM), and even a camp parent for more than few house parties. Ken previously served on the NSW council of SIM (missionary organisation) for more than 8 years and has a continuing interest in promoting and supporting local and overseas mission.
His vision for the church is to encourage and challenge God’s people to know Jesus better through the Bible and to really ‘live’ for Jesus by doing acts of love and generosity and by greater local outreach to multicultural Sydney. In the past Ken was a financial accountant, an auditor, a policy analyst, tax agent, and contract writer. Now he works as a corporate and business planner for a local council. Ken is married to Cindy and has two daughters, Katie and Amy, who are great kids. Ken enjoys watching movies, playing board games, rumbling with his kids, and exploring new places to eat with the family.
