Ministry Equipping Initiative (MEI)

Person holding a Bible

For some people at WSCCC, the possibility exists of setting apart a significant period of time to gain some training and experience. That period of time might be one day per week for a year or two, or it might be two whole years.

The Ministry Equipping Initiative can provide a structured learning programme for such people, through ministry opportunities, courses, guided reading, and other learning strategies. Examples of task areas include:

  • Preparing and leading small groups
  • Planning and involvement in Sunday services
  • Occasional preaching
  • Attendance at ministry planning and oversight meetings
  • Teaching high school Scripture
  • Assigned reading and discussion
  • Prayer journal and Bible reading log
  • One to one mentoring
  • Occasional hospital visitation, funeral observation, and other pastoral areas
  • Formal part-time studies at Bible college.

The participants are volunteers and receive no remuneration from the church. Some are able to fund themselves completely, while others need some financial support from Christian friends. All of them need the prayer support from the church.

MEI is under the oversight of the pastors and deacons of the WSCCC English ministry. Bruce Dipple is the coordinator for 2007 and guides the learning programme of the participants.

Training outcomes

We seek to develop godly servants of Christ and his gospel by addressing three areas:

Character development

Knowledge and understanding

Skills enhancement

We serve a God who loves the world, so in all the training we seek to maintain a gobal perspective. Your involvement and support will contribute to the strengthening of our church and its many ministries.

Currently we have two Ministry Interns – Andrew Wong, serving at cp11, and Alex Fung, serving in partnership in Japan through OMF.

Andrew Wong

Andrew Wong

Andrew has attended WSCCC since 1987. Over the years he has been involved various ministries both inside and outside of WSCCC. Through these experiences it has been a joy to see many people come to know Christ as their Lord and Saviour, and to see many Christians grow in their desire to honour Him with their lives.

Andrew has been working in IT firm as a software developer. As a Ministry Intern, he receives hands-on training that forms the foundations necessary for a future worker in full-time ministry. He hopes to learn much as he experiences first hand the ups and downs of church ministry within a formal training environment.

On completion of the Ministry Intern program he plans to enrol into Bible college on a full-time basis to complete formal theological training. After that his hope is to be involved in pastoral work among the growing number of Australian born or raised people from Asian backgrounds.

Alex Fung

Alex Fung

Alex grew up in Oatley, Sydney. Art, books, music, film, and backpacking preoccupied his life until he received Jesus as Lord in his first year at university. He trained as a librarian, working in local libraries and university administration, enjoying interaction with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Through studying the Bible and talking to mission and ministry-minded people, he discovered a passion for the lost and for God’s people. He has enjoyed local church ministry with young children, youth, and overseas students at WSCCC.

During a short-term mission trip to Japan, God confirmed a desire in him to do ministry with people in Japan. As a two-year Ministry Intern with both OMF and WSCCC, he aims to spend time learning language and culture whilst training under experienced OMF missionaries, also in partnership with WSCCC, serving with God’s people in Japan.
